Enthalpy

I've got some year 12 assignment on enthalpy. In a combustion reaction, energy is released. I remember Anthony saying something about the Law of Conservation of energy. Anyone know how that links into it?

 

doesnt the law of conservation of energy say that energy remains constant in an independent/isolated system. and enthalpy is to do with heat? so maybe he wants you to say that because of the law of conservation of energy, you can say that in the combustion reaction heat energy is released?

That's my point. If assume an isolated system, if heat is released it must be absorbed by something else so total energy remains the same right?

cant it just be released and not absorbed back into the equation?
