Thats browser issue, w/e browser you use isn't taking the focus away from the quote button and putting it into the chat field like it should be, Opera and IE work fine *Atleast IE 8 Beta*

 

It happened when i used IE before too, i think it happens in IE6 and 7

and websites should be built for browsers, not the other way around

from quicly looking at the code, it doesnt look like he is setting focus back to the text box (opera proly just never changes focus to the button), i may hav just missed it tho

also, pre's code is weird, some lines end in ';', others dont.. also stuff its tabbed over weirdly, that has "copy paste" written all over it

 

but it happened after he'd allready typed a word, so wouldnt that mean he was allready clicked into the textbox and the focus shouldnt be on the button.

 

Firefox works fine aswell.
Anyways, your right, Opera doesn't take the focus from the Textbox, as to why Firefox and IE Beta 8 work fine is another thing, cause they do steal focus

Not always, I have seen a simkilar thing happen before just not in a website, it was cuase focus was set wrong

 

i think frank's right guys... because it's not possible to stop the bug occuring once it starts - no matter how much you click around and stuff. the only way to fix it is completely empty the text box and use quote again

 

hmm, so some how its setting focus to both items.. i didnt even know that was possible in windows

sounds like it is an IE issue then (or atleast a windows issue), pre might be able to get around it by calling set focus himself tho

 

you're right... i just figured out i can make the bug occur whenever i want... i just need to not click in the text box before i start writing... and i was wrong before. if i click in the box once its started happenign it stops.

i just dont understand why the space bar makes it requare and the endter button doesn't

 

ahh, in that case, opera does the same thing (after i click quote, every space makes a new quote), only difference opera doesnt put the text i type into this postbox (when no input box is selected, opera does default hotkey action for buttons, so 'a' cycles through links.. and other buttons do random other things)

pre should def be able to fix that then.. just set focus to the text box after someone quotes

Nope, see I just pressed quote then, and typed, didn't click in the text box or anything, it like, behaves fine for me, maybe its an XP issue in combination with IE

 

just tried it in firefox with vista. (i was using IE with XP before). and the same thing happened with me as it did with brad. every time i pressed space another quote came up - but no text came up.


so yeah, just make the focus go off the quote button and into the text box... easy to fix if you know what you're doing

Toby: click quote, the button should get a black border to show its got focus, then press space bar
the button should continualy get pressed, when you type, nothing should come out since you cant type on a button (Opera just see's it as shortcut keys and does random stuff)

It gets the border, but doesn't requote if I press space, if I press space, it puts a space in the text box

 

.. but you havent clicked into the post box yet.. how does Opera know if you want to type in the postbox or the search box? according to opera, the search box has higher priority as its higher on the page, and is an actual text box (i think this does works off some hidden text box, but its hidden..)

If I quote, I just press quote and type, thats it!
If I do a post like this with no quote, then I do have to click into the text box.
Clicking Quote without first clicking into the text box has no effect on other page objects, it quotes the text in this post box
