we should organize car pooling and petrol money or what not.. post in here if your going n how your getting there

me and 2 friends need a way down there, and supposibly we have to catch 3 busses to get there ~_^ so wondering if anyone will drive us for petrol money (we live in aberfoyle park)

and it costs be about $9 to get to uni and back from willunga each time i drive... so it'll probably cost about the same...

and toby, if u wanna go but can't take ur computer, maybe borrow someones server and bring your HDD? that's what i've done a couple of times when i can't take my computer...

i dont drive most days... my mum usually takes me (on her way to work)

and i'm 90% sure it goes all night, it has on other occasions.

saturdays are baaad when your traveling to the south via public transport...

but if your gonna get a bus, this is the best i can work out:

get the 721 from flinders medial centre that leaves at 4.06 and arrives at collonades at 4.45 (these buses are hourly on weekends...) from there u'll need to get the 753 bus from collonades that leaves at 5.19 - it will get you into willunga at 6.03

the bus trip from your house - your looking at at least 2 and a half hours...

i also looked at the time tables for buses leaving from marion and they weren't any better than the 721...

but if u could get a lift from your house to noarlunga your trip would be about an hour in total which isn't too bad...

It was cool except i spent the first 4 hours doing nothing because the network was a bitch! grr so many ccna kids and they couldnt fix it, ahwell ive come to accept that at lans the network is usually a bitch. Also when the power went out to our side it killed my server and corrupted the os, but that got fixed in about 15 minutes

 

lol all I can do is laugh at the corrupt os..... No offence but thats madly funny what are the chance's lol

sif you didnt use your laptop JT, its beasty! AND has a battery, easily powerfull enough for any games you wanted to play

my laptop seemed to handle it all fine tho.. the only problem i had was low disk space.. but deleting AOE3 and BF2's extracted setup files fixed that

Just remember, ATI are the ones that give out virus's, and have texture corruption, your such a fag, Nvidia kick ass!
And I reckon running a game like cyrsis off a battery powered laptop would drain it like crazy, just cause of the huge power drain from the gpu/cpu needed to run the game XD
Ohhhh and a laptop with an 8600 in it would proly only last like an hour so it'd be better to use a desktop that last for ever XD

 

lol, they dont last for a hour.. they last for as long as a desktop + 1 hour (but better GPU = bigger laptop = bigger battery = not realy any change in battery life)
and ATI didnt bundle a virus.. they had a file with the same name as a virus.. i have 7.9 drivers.. and they still have mom.exe (if it was a virus.. why would ATI keep it in there?)
and i saw that game corrupting textures and meshes at wiLANga xD... the only time that has happened to me was with my old laptop trying to run serious sam 2 (a DX9 game on a not even full DX8 card)
but damn.. uni has a cool font that made that unreadable XD.. no1 was supposed to actualy read it

 

My lovely laptop with an nvidia 8700M GT lasts for over 2 hours gaming, but it wouldnt talk to anyone else and i was to lazy to try

 

Brad, that game corrupting was proly due to heat, but it doesnt do it now, the computer is being fine....
When will you learn that nvidia are a fine company, they make decent cards, stop fucking dissing them

i dunno if its just my laptop.. but it came with some crazy power adapter thing.. which let me plug into power anywhere a desktop can be plugged in... infact, more places! it only takes 1 power point to power the whole thing!.. i was amazed
but yeah, what i mean is you can use a laptop anywhere you can use a desktop, plus run on battery when you dont have power
anyway. saying ur computer overheated means laptops arent the only thing that overheat, so u cant bash them for that now

Desktops are allowed to overheat, they have more heat producing parts then a laptop (as in bigger gpu = more heat)
And desktops run games/programs that are slightly more demanding then you heap of shit games like WoW or CS

all graphics cards find it hard to move from one comptuter to the other.. i moved a nvidia tnt 2 from some other computer to our old one (other from 2000, ours from 2001, so almost same age) and got all these stupid errors.. its not compadable with XP.. you gota do some registry hacks to get it to work (if nvidia are so almightly, why didnt they fix it in their new drivers?)
only problem ive had with corrupting games is my old one not running serious sam 2.. which i wouldnt expect it to, and you can talk.. your nvidia corrupted at wiLANga
 (for the record.. the ATI corrupting textures he's talking about is when he had drivers installed over themselves.. the ppl who own the computer formatted and its running fine now)

thats a good point, you can use a laptop on the internet at any access point (such as ASMS or uni.. or peoples houses when their neighbours have unsecure wireless)
who has a desktop running off 1 power point? you actualy need 3 unless you buy self powered speakers or use headphones

 

The texture corruption I was talking about was the corrupt card, they formated, installed the virus drivers, and still the same issue, ATI SUCK!
Nvidia have heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaps good drivers, and driver support, as I said, its heat that cause the texture corruption, not the gfx card at wilanga

Laptops MUST be more expensive, their parts are smaller, more compact, which make them harder to fix and replace, as the parts are harder to make

according to newegg, the most expensive 2900 is $500, most expensive 8800 is $800.. dont compare prices from 2 diff sites (i know your going by some expensive random site for the 2900 and msy for the 8800)

ur cards 3 yrs old, and my card is all confined in a 14" laptop with 1 fan cooling down the battery, CPU and graphics.. saying urs is overheating is masively paying out nvidia

Are you saying i should get a GTS Ultra in my laptop? cause the 8700M GT is the highest nvidia make for a laptop, and as for you saying laptops suck, they dont, my friend has an old dell gaming rigg thats almost 5 years old and he can still play games like BF2142 on it with decent graphics.

As for ATI sucking and no good games ever getting played on them? Ever look at the half life 2 box? with a big ol ATI logo on it?

Also MSY is not retail for graphics cards, do you understand that? retail is what you pay at A&R or it whorehouse, which is alot more expensive. You will also notice that most high end desktop machines dont power the monitor as they need the power for other things, also saying 100 computers at the hub did isnt a win for you, the hub sucks the cock computer wise.

Also i had a lovely nvidia 5 years ago, it worked great for a while untill i updated the drivers and it fucked itself over, was a horrible card, also nvidia drivers also have issues, when i first got sasha it would freeze 5 mins into games, the fix? update the drivers,,,,,,,,,,

And ATI v Nvidia is all well and good but if your gonna keep bitching im gonna swap a an nvidia 5200 in your machine and see how ya like it

 

lol, the hub is the most technical releated school in south austrlia, with the most computer - student ratio (1 computer per 3 students) so the hub is fair up there, and many old systems DID power the monitor from the tower, take a look on the back of computers that are like 10+yrs old....also a dell ?!??! Hehe i love toshi, for a system thats basically the same as mine (blu ray instead of hd-dvd) it costs an extra 2 grand for dual 8700's,,,,,,,,, personally im very happy with sasha

hehe just looked at their xps extreme gaming desktops, first off they lie "Extreme quad core!" a Q6600 is not an extremem quad core, a QX6850 is! which they charge an extra $1150 for (which is fine, they cost ALOT!) but to create an equivalent to my desktop cost $6500! i built my desktop for around $2k intially and then another $500 on new cpu ram and psu recently! then theres my screen another $400, so i got mine for $2900 compared to $6500,,,,,,,,,,,,, damn i gotta get into the computer buisness

LOL! A laptop is restrictive, in everyway, example, you couldnt get 2 8800 GTS Ultra's 720MB's in em...nor could ya get 2 Quad Cores, or 128 GB RAM, but you can in a desktop....And I always will stay with nvidia, for quality over quantity

 

you can get dual 8700M GT's in a laptop, and in many of those larger laptops (for instance the 20" ones they do exist) there is plenty of room for multiple cores and high amounts of ram, some of those 20" monsters have more room than standard tower cases!

ATI Graphics Cards are nothing in comparison to nvidia though, if your a SERIOUS gamer (dual core/quad core 4gb ram, play NORMAL DECENT games like crysis MOH:AB etc) then you go nvidia, if your a general gamer who needs a cheap and nasty bilo brand gfx card then you go ATI

 

you should compare relative to the cost... ATI's top card is 40% cheaper than nvidia's top card.. so you could almost buy 2 ATI for the price of 1 nvidia
so to comapre them properly.. either increas the ATI's score by 40%.. compare 2 ATI's to 1 nvidia.. compare a ATI PC with the extra money spent on a better CPU to a nvidia PC.. or compare a cheaper 8800

even if you compare ATI's top card with nvidia's.. they are almost the same power.. ATI win at higher res.. nvidia win at lower res (source)

serious gamers ey? how many people do you know that have 4gb ram?... i'd say like < 1% of people

 

Most people I know via forums etc have 4gb ram why? cause WiC needs 2.5 GB (DX10 game so they have vista, which needs another 500mb ontop =3GB Ram)
Crysis wants 2GB + 500MB for vista

Plus add another say 200MB for people that have mice/joystick like mine that run a background program
Sparta wants 2.5GB Recommended (+500MB for Vista = 3GB)

I know probibly about 70%+ of people with 4GB ram, and I know 4 people that I have meet that have 4GB ram...

4gb of ram is wasted as most games are developed for 32bit os's where you usualy get around 3.25gb of ram with high end graphics cards,

also lad i have a quad core, 4gb of 800mhz ram and play very decent games and i use an ATI and i have had no problems with all the games, the nvidia in my laptop gets buggy on certain games.

Mmmm....but Ive seen sooooooooo many issues with ATI its not funny, like keyloggers, fucked drivers that make textures become corrupt, issues of putting 1 ati into another ati machine....and the fact that nvidia tend to beat ati where it counts in bench testing

having 4gb ram now is like, having 100mb ram 5 years ago, nothing that special, but basically cause alot of games...correction....ALL GOOD new games, need like 3gb ram, + extra 500mb for vista so alot of people are starting to get 4gb ram (like JT said though, its more along the lines of 3.65GB)

 

5 ppl out of 20 isn't a majority... but i agree serious gamers would go for 4GB of ram these days... but besides serious gamers and rich ppl, not many ppl at all would have 4GB yet!

i just searched DSE.. and first computer i found with 2gb ram was priced at $2500... most people want to pay $1500 max for a computer

 

yeah, and all there laptops are chuncky and have nothin special in them like no good gfx or anything, so they are old laptops/computers
entry level ram, for a mid range (2 - 2.3 $) computer is about 2gb....
1GB is recently gone entry level (as of about 6montsh ago)
and 512MB is gone entry level as of about 1yr ago (when I got this computer, when it had 512 MB)

The latest in entry level is 2gb
The latest for gamers is 4gb
The latest in entry level gfx mb is 256
The Lates for gamers is 720MB average

And scrads, NON of your mates, sept me, play decent games that need more then 512 mb ram,
Im a gamer, I play GOOD GAMES, which are demanding, and a decent gfx level, needing 2gb ATLEAST now-a-days....look at sparta for example, that wants 2gb for XP if cameron played sparta, he'd have 2gb ram...he plays AOM, WoW, CS 1.6 so 512 is fine....

Everyone I know sept you, play the latest in games, and there for have entry level computers (2gb ram)(some have gaming computers, like JT)

 

good games dont have to be demanding.. look at the list of games JT plays..

i'd replace "Forza Motorsport 2" with AOM and its perfect (never played/seen Forza.. so dunno if its actualy good.. darren says its good tho)

demanding != good.. demanding usualy means they spend too much time on graphics.. and gameplay suffers.. or it means its programmed badly

 

not true, Demanding = good because, they have spent time like u said on gfx, making it look belevable, which NO GAME used to do, (example CS, AOM, AOE, the crap ones)
and gameplay is always fine, like COH awesome gameplay, WiC awesome game play, Sparta Awesomeg gameplay, MOH: AB awesome gameplay, bf2142 awesome gameplay, crysis pwnage gameplay

I find AOM boring, its to slow as supremacy, and TItan Ai is like piss easy,

Gameplay very very rarely suffers, its what sells a game, I dont know anygame where game play has suffered, COH sold more units then AOM, and yet, even in my opinion, while coh has great gameplay, even AOM beats it...
Gamplay sells, gfx dont, but making the game seem belevable is an important point....

Besides, we have the technology to run good graphics games, so why not....
No body thinks about dialup anymore when making a download, just like companys dont think about the odd few people who are to lazy or pov to buy a new gfx card....200 buck will get ya a 7600GT or GTS, which is crysis on DX9 High Gfx,
100 bucks will get ya my card, which is crysis on medium gfx (DX 9)
150 will get ya the 7200GTS which is WiC on Max DX9 gfx
300 Bucks will get ya the 8600 GTS 320MB which is WiC and Crysis on max DX10 gfx
(yes 300 bucks for the 8600 is right, jamies 8800GTS 320MB was 400 bucks)

 

what you mean "COH sold more units then AOM" ? you mean has more units available?

I just rather a clean screen without effects everywhere cluttering the screen.. some effects are nice.. but not when they stop you being able to see stuff
and running at 100 or 200fps, instant alt+tabbing, not lagging vista's windows+tab, and being able to have opera, VC, PSP, max, effect edit (that one is a killer :@) open in the background is a bonus

 

COH sold more copys, COH is alot more popular the AOM
You can do that in vista too, it runs as fast as xp, just takes longer to load
It is instal alt+tab, and i can still run 2 games and opera and msn in vista, like I can in xp
Only dif is im 500mb down in ram

 

i mean in games tho.. AOM is so easy to see where the units are.. everything is coloured.. everything is sharp, good contrast, no pointless smoke/bloom/flare's
and prey doesnt run in vista.. so till i get bored of prey.. im not goin to vista .. they cut too many corners in OGL
dont know if its just cos vista likes dual cores or something.. but vista loads soo much faster for me than XP.. if JT ever reads past all this.. how fast does urs load compared to XP JT?

 

cause vista in general is a faster OS (minus the extra services)
It loads faster for me aswell, and yes I have shit load more installed now

And in COH units are easy to see, everything is colored too, its all sharp (except for my icons I made for my new units in my mod), and contrast is fine....there isnt pointless smoke or bloom (well maybe bloom on the flags is pointless)
COH is just a darker game, cause its a WW2 game thats so to say 'true to life' real war in WW2 was dark and gloomy, and you gotta remember, the levels in COH can be hell bright, its just relic didnt make them so, its not the textures or anything, its just the level designers that seem to like grey

and you trust steam? who only test people that download from them?
Its also a statistic that about 10% of people that buy games, use steam, so they are only testing 10% outa 100% of gamers so that statistic of yours go right down the drain

WOOOO....I just set a video as my background picture, and vista went up from 600MB ram usage (oddly high) to 760MB ram usage XD thats more then COH lol
